To recent generations Australia was the first port of call when it came to wine, with so many of us having "cut our teeth" on the Jacob's Creeks and Rosemounts of this world. However while Australia still delivers tremendous consistency at an affordable level there is increasing interest from wine drinkers in the better regional wines that compete with the best wines of France, Italy etc. Barossa Valley Shirazes, Coonawarra Cabernets and cool Victorian Sparklers are choice examples.

Lehmann's best-loved red is a beauty - smooth, rich, raisiny and altogether sumptuous. Although this is a blockbuster, it is very well judged: it doesn't seem too oaky, too heavy or too alcoholic, so just keep sipping a ...

"The majority of grapes for this wine come from the Barossa with a small proportion from neighbouring Eden Valley. A dark ruby in the glass is followed by an exuberant nose of blackcurrants. The palate is full texture and crisp, a firm backbone of tannin overlaid with smooth fruit."Raymond Blake - June 2008
