 Happy Hallo-Wine!

 Happy Hallo-Wine!

 While you could be easily forgiven for thinking that Halloween treats were only for the kids calling to your door, there is always room for some grown-up treats as well.

I know I for one will be treating myself to a glass or two of red wine over the bank holiday weekend, and my choice will almost certainly come from the delicious selection I have picked out below.

Although it was just a few short weeks ago I was writing about enjoying the last of the summer wine, there can be no argument but that autumn has now taken hold, with the leaves dropping and the clocks going back this weekend the wines I have chosen below are all about roasts, hearty casseroles and cosy evenings in beside the fire.

My first choice is Château Remaury, this Minervois is an old favourite from the legendary Languedoc winemaker, Gérard Bertrand, in describing this wine, I am certain I could do no better than the big man himself, so in his own words;

 "With this wine you can taste the Languedoc Sunshine in the glass, and as I always with my red wines, I aim for very soft tannins and a very smooth finish."

For my next selection, we are staying in the Languedoc but, in fact we just taking a short run down the road to the neighbouring region of Corbières. Les Jardins de Caraguilhes is an O’Briens exclusive cuvée made for us by the Languedoc’s leading organic winery. Once again I’ll leave to the winemaker Etienne Besancenot, to tell you a little more about this delicious wine.

"The harvest at Caraguilhes is quite late compared to most other wineries in Corbières, this means our wines are very Rhône-like in style."

Produced from vineyards, deep in the heel of Italy, Rinforzo is full-bodied, rich and complex with flavours of blackberry jam, prunes, dark chocolate and Mediterranean herbs. The use of partially dried grapes gives great concentration to the already rich Primitivo fruit.

Aruma is a 100% Malbec from top estate Bodegas Caro, as hedonistic and full of chocolatey richness as they come. This is a joint venture between Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite and Nicolas Catena. The winemaking is overseen by DBR's technical team. Rich, full flavoured & Silky smooth, this really is a superb Malbec.

So, if you are looking for a warming Autumnal red this weekend you won’t find a better wine than one of the above, and to top it all off, you will receive 10% back on your loyalty card with all wine purchases right across the bank holiday weekend, so there can be no excuse not to treat yourself!
