Whether you plan to celebrate America’s Independence day or not, the 4th of July finds us slap-bang in the middle of Barbecue season and thanks to its dark and spicy flavour profile and full-bodied nature there really can be no better wine choice to stand up to sticky ribs, chicken, sausages and burgers than Zinfandel.
Now Iknow the temptation with a BBQ is to reach for something cheap and cheerful or even a beer, but you will be find that you have a match made in heaven if you go with oneof my favourites below.
Working only with fruit sourced from California's breath-taking coastal winegrowing regions, Kendall-Jackson’s winemakers draw a rich palette of aromas and flavours to handcraft wines of exceptional depth and complexity. Their Vintner’s Reserve Zinfandel is medium to full-bodied with a lovely ripeness of fruit over a bed of oak, cinnamon and pepper, some Zins are simple & fruity, this has a lot more to offer.
Clos Du Val are one of California's true-blood 1st growth estates, the wine are made by Bernard Portet whose winemaking skills were gleaned from his years spent training at Château Latour, so it comes as no surprise that not only is the wine made here of the highest standard but also that a European accent can be seen on everything including their elegant, refined Zinfandel which has beautifully defined red-berry fruit with sweet spice and a long lasting finish.
So next time you fire up that BBQand grab a bottle of Zin., you'll be infor a real summer treat!
