This week sees the 50th Anniversary of mankind's greatest achievement of the 20th century. The United States' commitment to land humans on the moon before 1970 was a spectacularly ambitious goal: NASA's entire computing power (on the rocket, mission control and the Eagle lander) was less than that found in today's mobile phones. When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to step on to the surface of the moon America affirmed its place as the ultimate western global superpower.
I encourage you to pause and celebrate this momentous event, when humans took their first baby steps in to the Solar System. And what better way to do so than with a wonderful bottle of American fizz?
The Schramsberg property was established in California in 1965 by Jack and Jamie Davis. From the start they were focussed on producing the quality sparkling wines to compete with the best in the world. This Blancs de Blanc is 100% Chardonnay sourced from premium sites across Napa and Sonoma and is produced in the same laborious way as Champagne (secondary fermentation in bottle).
This is one of the best quality NV sparkling wines coming out of the United States- dry and crisp, with an elegant complexity from the two years' bottle ageing. This wine gained international recognition in 1972 when US President Nixon served it at the historic "Toast to Peace" in Beijing, China.
Traditional Method Sparkling wine is ideal to serve as an aperitif, but even better with light dishes such as fresh seafood or hard cheese. But for the week that's in it- try good sparkling wine with good auld American salted & buttered popcorn!
Trust me, you'll wonder why you've never heard of it before.
There are plenty more USA wines available at O'Briens Wine, so shop online or drop in to your local store where our friendly and knowledgeable staff will gladly help you pick out that perfect bottle from our exciting range.
