Best New Wines Under €10

Best New Wines Under €10

The O'Briens Annual Wine Sale continues in-store and online. Last week I featured the headline Monte Real Gran Reserva Rioja and Château Bentejac Bordeaux- both Half Price! There are plenty of other fantastic offers, with over 40 wines under €10, including brand new wines to the range. Here are three of my favourite new arrivals.

Brand New Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Te Onepoto Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc €9, Down from €14.95 until 22nd September

New Zealand's Marlborough region has established itself as the preeminent New World region for high-quality Sauvignon Blanc. This brand new wine to our lineup is benchmark Marlborough, with all that pungent herbaceous aromatics, tropical and citrus fruit flavours and crisp acidity on the fresh finish. And at only €9 (down from €14.95) it is a very affordable way to discovery this versatile and food-friendly style of wine.

Pair with grilled langoustines or similar fresh seafood.

Marvellous New Argentinian Malbec

If Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most food-friendly styles of white wine, then Argentinian Malbec is the red equivalent. With naturally moderate tannins and delicious plump fruit flavours it matches very well with savoury and umami flavoured dishes.

Hacienda de Calidad Malbec, €9.95 Down from €13.95

Although Mendoza is Argentina's best known region for high quality Malbec, there are plenty of other regions that produce good examples of this grape. Hacienda de Calidad comes from San Juan, an area known for producing good value wines and at under €10, this is terrific value! It is a pure and unoaked expression of Malbec, bursting with blackberry, dark cherry and violet fruit flavours and aromas. Round, silky tannins and fresh acidity are well balanced to give a delicious, food-friendly wine.

The classic pairing for beefy Argentinian Malbec is juicy steak, but as this wine is unoaked it has softer, silkier and more moderate tannins than you may expect. This allows it to pair with a wide range of foods, even more delicate dishes such as seafood risotto.

Best New Rioja

If you would rather something a little more classic, then we have you covered during the O'Briens Annual Wine Sale. With dozens of Old World favourites and a few new wines, including the new Marqués de Griñón Alea. Reduced to €9, there is €6.95 Off until September 22nd!

A deliciously smooth and easy-drinking Tempranillo and Garnacha blend, this wine is vibrant and bursting with typical plum and strawberry fruit flavours, balancing good acidity with soft round tannins. Six months in American oak barrels gives a hint of vanilla and sweet spice complexity to the finish.

Marqués de Griñón Alea is an absolute steal for the price and the perfect accompaniment for your favourite tapas dishes. Or for something a little more local, this year's Spring lamb is at its best about this time of year and Rioja is the classic match.

There are more than 100 wines in the Annual Wine Sale, so drop in to your local O'Briens or shop online.
