With Ireland and the All Blacks off to a perfect start in the Rugby World Cup, it gives me the opportunity to introduce our brand new range of Kiwi wines from our new partners, Sherwood Estate.
The estate was founded by husband and wife team Dayne and Jill Sherwood in 1987. Based in the Waipara Valley on the South Island of New Zealand the family have always had an unwavering attention to quality and this attitude has grown the company over the past 30 years to become one of the largest independent wineries in the country. We are delighted to welcome three of their wonderful wines to our portfolio.
New Zealand is renowned for its aromatic and zesty fresh Sauvignon Blanc and that's exactly what we have here. The aroma is full of herbaceous notes of nettle, green bell pepper and cut grass, as well as a citrus and passion fruit freshness. The body is light and textured with a firm acidity and mouth-watering finish. A wonderfully fresh and clean wine that is delicious on its own, but the wine also has a lovely texture meaning it would pair wonderfully with grilled seafood or light meat dishes.
To introduce this wine to our customers there is 25% Off for the month of October.
Oaked Chardonnay can divide a room- you either love it or leave it. I am firmly in the Adore It camp! This Chardonnay was fermented in barrel and stainless steel, using wild yeasts and then aged on the lees (dead yeast cells that add a rich butteriness and textural complexity to the wine) for 6 months. This gives a medium-bodied wine with plenty of ripe fruit flavours along with the soft and smooth textured body and elegant mouthfeel. Toasty ripe pear fruit flavours dominate the long finish.
A wine like this is great with meatier fish or pork dishes, but also delicious with an Autumn BBQ!
As well as elegant, textural white wines, Waipara Valley allows the cultivation of cool-climate black grapes, such as Pinot Noir. These tend to be on the juicier side with bramble fruit flavours, hints of black cherry and plum. Subtle toasty oak complexities and cedar wood are underpinned by leather notes on the nose. The palate is chock full of juicy fruit and bright acidity married to fine grained tannins on the lengthy finish. An absolute delight and a perfect match for an Autumn warming roast.
With the coming of Autumn there are plenty more new wines on our shelves, so drop in to your local O'Briens Wine or shop online.
