Throughout the year I frequently use this blog to highlight lesser known wine styles or up and coming regions, but for the Christmas dinner table I will be recommending some more traditional choices.
Beaumont des Crayeres Grande Reserve (€31.49 down from €36.99) is a continual gold medal winner and highly rated Champagne. This is a rock solid Champagne that puts all those familiar brands €10+ above it to shame!
For a classic crisp white wine to carry you right the way through the meal, look no further than the Sophie Bertin Sancerre (€14.99 down from €19.49). This very polished single estate Sancerre delivers at every single level. Terrific minerality, zesty pungent aromas and crisp cool fruit. A cracking example of what good Sancerre should taste like and an absolute steal at this price!
When it comes to matching a red wine to turkey, I like to go with a rich full-bodied red such as a Châteauneuf-du-Pape or an Amarone.
Domaine la Crau Châteauneuf-du-Pape (€19.99 down from €30.49) Opening up a bottle of Châteauneuf du Pape should be a rewarding experience. You should get savoury aromas and abundant bramble fruit. It should be rich and velvety on the palate and the flavour should last. Domaine le Crau ticks all those boxes with ease. This is a warming Chateauneuf that offers fantastic value for money - a real steal!
Tajapiera Amarone Della Valpolicella (€19.99 down from €29.99) is deep and vibrant red in colour with an intense bouquet of blackberry fruit. The palate is rich, very full-bodied, and well-rounded, beautiful, classic black cherry fruit flavours. This wine is well structured, complex and offers a long, fruity finish.
I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a great year to come.
