Eight Degrees have been brewing since 2011, which at this stage almost makes then one of the grandfathers of Irish craft brewing.
Over the course of that time they have consistently put out great beers, over seventy different beers at my count but I could be corrected. The emphasis has been on IPAs in all their sub-styles, however their output has ranged far and wide when it comes to styles.
They recently joined the Irish Distillers family, moved into a new brewery site and made the move over to cans. So, as they celebrate eight years in business now is a great time to take a look at their canned core range. Even more so, as they are 4 for €10 this month!
Also, keep an eye out in stores for their Rack 'Em Up Series of limited releases collaborations celebrating their 8th Birthday.
Launched in 2011, Howling Gale has come to epitomise Eight Degrees quality and consistency, picking up numerous awards over the years. This includes this year at the World Beer Awards where it won the title of World Best American-style Pale Ale. Expect fresh citrus and grapefruit with a light touch of pine and sweet biscuity malt for balance.
From Eight Degrees first beer to their newest core release. This was formally brewed as a limited release named Summer Days but proved so popular Eight Degrees decided to release it year round 'so that it’s not just tied to those two weeks of sunshine in August'. Seisiún shows you don't need a high alcohol content to pack in the flavour with plenty of zesty lime hop notes on a light malt body.
Citra is the darling hop of modern fruit forward IPA styles. This single hop IPA from Eight Degrees does exactly what it says on the tin; showcasing everything that's great with the Citra hop. Juicy and fruity with tropical tones of passion fruit and guava. Finishing with a bitter citrus bite.
The final beer in this round-up needs no introduction, having picked up numerous awards over the years. This beer is brewed with 100% Irish malt delivering a smooth base for the Ahtanum, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops. And there are a lot of hops in this beer. Lost of citrus, floral and pine character from the aroma to the final drop.
