With guests arriving thick and fast through the front door, presents to wrap, food to cook, decorations to finish, candles to light and reindeer snacks to prepare, the last thing anybody needs is to worry about wine, so here are some tips to make your life easier throughout the festive period.
- If the fridge is full, coolwhites overnight at the back door (so long as it’s not below zero) and they will be chilled to perfection for the dinner table the following day.
-Use nice wine glasses, they can be bought inexpensively and really enhance the experience at the dinner table for you and your guests.
-It is worth decanting rich heavy reds especially when they are young as it helps to make them more accessible and enhances their aromas.
-Buying wines with screw caps will make your life much easier and countries such as New Zealand have made a quality statement in using these instead or corks.
-You will need to assume six glasses per bottle for still wines and 5 glasses per bottle for sparkling wines and Champagne.
-Be sure to have iced water on the table for your guests along with water glasses to quench thirst.
