Our Italian wine sale runs right through until 10pm on St. Patrick’s day.
With over 100 wines included and discounts ranging from 20% - 37%, there is plenty of choice on offer to suit all tastes and budgets.
Of course, there are far too many wines for me to list here, but I have picked out below just a few of the internationally-renowned wines available at these amazing sale prices.
Rizzardi Pinot Grigio (€11.59 down from €14.49), is in a completely different league to the most others, this is Pinot Grigio as it is meant to be. Rizzardi's single estate wine is bursting with ripe pear and peachy fruit. This is a more serious, complex take on Pinot Grigio with honey and sweet spices adding to the rich pear fruit. Delicious on its own, but even better when paired with grilled seabass.
Gavi can be just about the most refreshing of Italian white wines with clear lemon, ripe apple and pear fruit, and an underlying stony character. An extremely elegant white to serve chilled with light meals, Ascheri's Gavi di Gavi (€15.19 down from €18.99), is easily one of the best in Ireland. So put it in the fridge for an hour and enjoy on its own or complimenting a wild mushroom risotto.
Crocera Barbera d'Asti Superiore (€12.39 down from €15.49), is a modern rich style of Barbera from a single estate, this is made by Claudio Manera (Multi-award winning owner/winemaker). Truly outstanding, it's richly textured with masses of fruit and great acidity too. Generous and perfectly balanced this is just the wine to match up with antipasti.
San Felice Contrada (€12.79 down from €15.99), was created for the 'Contrade' of Siena as the pouring wine at their traditional banquets during the days of the 'Palio'. The wine was so successful it has become a part of San Felice's main portfolio. The Contrada is mostly Merlot and Sangiovese with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a gorgeous, modern take on a Tuscan wine; excellent fruit with a mouth-watering wild cherry accent. Good structure, balanced acidity and all round an unbeatable wine with a good stone-baked pizza.
Volpetto Chianti Riserva (€11.99 down from €18.49), is modern Chianti at its best, packed full of juicy, ripe red-berried fruit, nice touch of oak and above all silky smooth. It's a superbly made wine that will appeal to everyone, not just fans of Italian reds. Volpetto will be on the tasting table in all O’Briens stores this weekend, so why not pop in to your local store and give it a try, this is a wine that is crying out to be paired with slow-roast shoulder of lamb.
