This Friday, April 17th, the fifth World Malbec day, sees many large scale events in cities worldwide such as Buenos Aires, New York, Sao Paulo, London, Sydney and Toronto.
If, like me, you think it might be a bit of a stretch at this stage to get to one of those tastings, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out.
Why not join in at home by choosing a Malbec to enjoy over the weekend and join in the global conversation by using the hashtag #MalbecWorldDay.
I know that, I for one will be savouring one of the wonderful wines below this weekend, now if I could only decide which one!
Aruma is a 100% Malbec from top estate Bodegas Caro, as hedonistic and full of chocolatey richness as they come. This is a joint venture between Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite and Nicolas Catena. The winemaking is overseen by DBR's technical team. Rich, full flavoured; gorgeous ripe, blackberry and plum fuit. Silky smooth this is a superb Malbec.
‘H’ de l'Hospitalet Malbec is a stunning new wine made by multi-award winning winemaker, Gérard Bertrand. Violet and blackberry aromas on the nose lead into a palate with flavours of ripe bramble fruit, vanilla, cocoa and dark plum. The finish is long with a silk-smooth mouthfeel.
Man O'War Merlot Malbec is an elegant Bordeaux blend from a trailblazing Waiheke island producer. Aromas of crushed red berries and darker cassis with hints of floral perfume, clove, herbs and cedar, which lead into a vibrant palate with great concentration and supple approachable tannins.
All of these wineries will be present at our upcoming Spring Wine Fair(April 24th and 25th) where you will have a chance to taste over 180 wines from over 40 of the world’s best winemakers!
