It’s that time of year again! What began as a horse race to celebrate the nuptials of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in 1810 is now the largest beer festival in the world with millions of people flocking to Munich for this year’s Oktoberfest. Not making the trip yourself? Well, you can have your own little Oktoberfest with this year’s brews arriving in stores this week.
Spaten Oktoberfest, created in 1872, is the world's first Oktoberfest beer. This classic Oktoberfest beer has perfectly balanced roasted malt and hop character and a rich textured palate and an underlying sweetness true to tradition. A perfect match for roast chicken.Or why not fill up your stein with Hofbräu Oktoberfest, this is an incredibly easy drinking, lighter style yet still retaining that creamy mouthfeel and spicy alcoholic bite. Great with some traditional roasted ham hock, called Schweinshaxe.
For a slightly different take on the Oktoberfest style try the Erdinger Oktoberfest. This special Oktoberfest inspired brew is a Hefeweizen, meaning it is a wheat beer (weissbier) with the Hefe prefix meaning “with yeast”. So an unfiltered, cloudy beer giving that unique spiciness of an Oktoberfest but with a smooth, wheaty mouthfeel.
Limited stock available in stores and online from this week. Prost!
