One of our all-time favourite Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, Astrolabe goes on sale tomorrow at the unbelievable price of €12.95 (down from €19.95)
Astrolabe was the brain child of marine biologist Simon Waghorn and his wife Jane. Together they scoured Marlborough securing the best vineyard sites, this has allowed them to blend their unique award winning Sauvignon Blanc from over twenty vineyard locations.
They chose the name Astrolabe not just for its connotations of exploration and discovery, but also for historic reasons as it was the name of one the earliest sailing ships to explore the Marlborough coast.
Simon as winemaker has built an international reputation for making elegant well-balanced wines that honestly reflect the Marlborough region, he works hard to retain the unique New Zealand character to his wines while marrying this to the elegance typical of high-quality European wines.
All Simon's skill and experience combine to capture the essence of Marlborough in wines of purity, focus and elegance. Simon is fascinated by the unique qualities of the Awatere Valley and Kekerengu Coast sub-regions.
For his classic Sauvignon Blanc, the majority of the grapes come from 8 or 9 families of growers, and 60% of the fruit is from the Awatare with much of the balance coming from the Kekerengu Coast, which is south of Marlborough.
Rated 'Outstanding' by Wine Spectator and boasting fantastic aromatics and fruit character, the 2015 Astrolabe Sauvignon is what Marlborough is all about.
So if you haven’t had a chance to try this superb wine just yet or if you need to reacquaint yourself with an old friend, get down to your local O’Briens store this weekend because it’s not going to be at this price for long!
