Stone Brewing are credited as one of the breweries that really pushed the craft beer revolution in America. Founded in 1996 by friends Greg Koch and Steve Wagner they have grown, year on year, from a small brewery to become one of the largest craft breweries in the United States. Stone Brewing are known for their uncompromising style and for creating big bold beers, especially IPAs. They have approached the style in every conceivable manor and produced excellent beers each time.
And now they are here.
From their inception Stone Brewing have been all about freshness and they have taken that ideal to a new level as the first American craft brewer to build and operate their own brewery in Europe. In planning since December 2009, it has been a bit of a wait for diehard fans of this iconic American brewery. However this month saw the first beers roll out of their new brewery in a converted Belgian gasworks complex. This approach of building a new brewery, allows them to get their beers out to the European market a lot quicker which for us means fresher hoppier beers! Let’s hope more American brewers take up this approach.
Fresh cans of two Stone classics are in stores now, Stone IPA, their big punchy prototypical IPA and Stone Arrogant Bastard, a strong malty & hoppy ale. You can expect more of their core range to follow in the next few weeks and keep an eye out for some special releases down the track as well.
