Take One Grape - Sauvignon Blanc

Take One Grape - Sauvignon Blanc

An aromatic white grape variety that is indigenous to the Loire Valley in France and is believed to have originated in Bordeaux around the 18th century, it is now widely planted around the globe including New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Chile.

Sauvignon Blanc styles vary depending on where the grapes are grown: think green peppers, gooseberries, lime zest and blackcurrant leaf from cooler climates that lean towards white peach and passion fruit from warmer growing locations. On the palate expect a dry, crisp and refreshing wine and can have a mineral backbone from areas such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé and Menetou Salon in the Loire Valley in France.

Versatility with food is one of its key charms and it is delicious with anything from oily smoked salmon through to chalky goats cheese.

For a lifted exuberant crazily aromatic Sauvignon try Insight Sauvignon Blanc

If you want to experiment with a leaner more mineral driven style Henri Bourgeois Sancerre is perfect and for a slightly more exotic style Bellows Rock from South Africa is hard to beat.
