We were fortunate to welcome iconic Languedoc producer Gérard Bertrand to Dublin yesterday to launch the 2012 vintageof Clos d’Ora.
This wine is made from grapes grown in Gérard’s nine hectare vineyard in Minervois la Livinière, the result of a dream to turn an old sheep farm surrounded by ancient Carignan vines into a working winery making top quality wines that reflect the terroir of this stunning area of France.
Decanted for at least two hours before tasting, although youthful the Clos d’Oro is sumptuous complex and packed with blackberry fruits – at the same time it shows restraint and elegance underpinned by floral tones, spice and wild herbs.
Gérard explained that with these ancient vineyards, allowing nature to provide high quality fruit and with a gentle steering hand in the winery, he wanted to his wine to have not just character but soul – judging by the response to this wine yesterday in Dublin he seems to have succeeded.
