Today, April 17th, the fourth World Malbec day, sees many large scale events in cities worldwide such as Buenos Aires, New York, Sao Paulo, London, Sydney and Toronto.
If, like me, you think it might be a bit of a stretch at this stage to get to one of those tastings, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out.
Why not join in at home by choosing a Malbec to enjoy over the Easter break.
I know that, I for one will be savouring one of the wonderful wines below this weekend, now if I could only decide which one!
Privada Malbec (€21.49) is an incredible Malbec from Bodegas Norton - one of the finest being made today. It is a super-rich red that has an underlying mineral, freshness that retains an elegance and balance in the wine. This is a must buy just to see how good Malbec is when handled correctly.
Chocalán Malbec Gran Reserva (€23.49) is as good as any top Malbec from neighbouring Argentina. In fact, it is the best wine Chocálan have ever made. Here the wine really lives up to the name and this is a rich, chocolaty Malbec with layer upon layer of sweet, black and blueberry fruit. There are very few wines made anywhere in the world as rich and deep in flavour as this amazing Chocálan.
Both of these wineries will be present at our upcoming Spring wine fair ( May 9th and 10th) where you will have a chance to taste over 200 wines from over 35 of the world’s best winemakers!
Some of the other wineries coming over include Man O’War in New Zealand, Torbreck in Australia, Rizzardi from Italy, Château Kirwan from France and Tandem from Spain and this promises to be Ireland’s biggest spring wine tasting event in 2014!
