Best Father's Day Wine Gifts

Best Father's Day Wine Gifts

By Lorcan O'Brien | Wine Content Specialist

We all instinctively know that come June our dads are in desperate need of another pair of ill-fitting argyle socks that he can carefully stow away at the back of his wardrobe, lucky to ever see the light of day again.

However, if you decide to go rogue this Father's Day and, for some inexplicable reason, not buy your dad some supermarket underwear, a nice bottle of wine is the perfect alternative. This week I have picked some of the best Father's Day wine gifts from our range to help you make that perfect choice.

Bodegas Riojanas Borisa Reserva

Rioja, Spain

Top Rioja makes a great gift and this benchmark Reserva is ideal for Father's Day. It comes from our long-time partners, Bodegas Riojanas, who also make our popular Monte Real range.

Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes, it was released in limited quantities to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the estate. The grapes come from premium Cenicero Rioja vineyards and the wine is aged for 26 months in American oak barrels. Borisa Rioja Reserva balances power and elegance, with fine aromas of dark fruit and vanilla. The palate offers good fruit structure, fine acidity, polished tannins with a balanced persistent finish.

Bodegas Granbazán Contrapunto Albariño

RĂas Baixas, Spain

Albariño is one of the trendiest white wine styles and the firm customer favourite Contrapunto Albariño would make a perfect gift this Father's Day. Made by pioneering Bodega Granbazán, located in the Salnés Valley in Galicia, this is crisp, dry and fruity, with a lovely floral note. On the palate it displays vibrant mouth filling fruit of greengage, Granny Smith apple, peach &, lemon rind. Expect refreshing acidity and a saline minerality on the persistent finish, typical of the very best wines from this Galician wine region.

Norton Luján de Cuyo Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina

Bodega Norton is owned by the Swarovski family, who continue to strive for excellence in their wines. This Malbec is from the prestigious Luján de Cuyo sub-region of Mendoza, where Malbec's dominance of Argentinian wine was cemented. The grapes are grown in high altitude vineyards, which helps to retain freshness and acidity in the wine. It is loaded with ripe red fruits and a tongue-tingling white pepper note. Twelve months in new and second use French oak barrels gives a silky tannin structure and delicious toasty complexity before a long finish. With €6 off, this wine excellent value for money.

Mixed Cases Selection

If your dad has been a particularly good boy this year you might consider buying him something a bit special, such as our pre-made Mixed Cases. Each of the exciting wines in these cases are chosen by our Wine Team to show a diverse selection of regions and grape varieties from some of our top winemaking partners from around the world. We hope your dad enjoys trying them as much as we enjoyed selecting them.
