En Primeur 2019

By Lynne Coyle MW | O'Briens Wine Director

The 2019 Bordeaux En Primeur campaign went ahead this year in unique circumstances, and although the Bordeaux tastings were cancelled due to lockdown, some Châteaux kindly sent their wines to Dublin for tasting.

Overall, the wines from the 2019 vintage have received excellent reviews and have been released at fair prices. We hope that you will find something to tempt you in our offer and because stocks are limited we would advise you to order early.

Our Bordeaux 2019 vintage En Primeur offer presents the opportunity to purchase wine whilst it is still maturing in barrel at the Châteaux. There is a chance the value of the wine may increase in the future and purchasing at a fixed price now often represents good value for money. The wines will arrive in Dublin in the spring of 2022.

Château Ormes de Pez 2019 €118 per 6 bottle case

Saint-Estèphe

"Plenty of punch in this Ormes de Pez, full of rich ripe black fruits, traces of exotic spices of cinnamon and saffron from the heat of the summer, and brilliant value if looking for personality and appellation signature in St Estèphe. Blend completed with 3% Petit Verdot."

Château Mauvesin Barton 2019 €75 per 6 bottle case

Moulis-En-Médoc

"This estate has been fully renovated and is now producing attractive wines. This vintage is rich in black fruits, full-bodied and luscious. The tannins are present in the structured background."

Château Langoa-Barton 2019 €200 per 6 bottle case

Saint-Julien

"Silky blackberry and bilberry fruits, this is a brilliant Langoa, with concentration and lift that pull you both forwards and upwards through the palate. For me this is more successful than the 2018 because it delivers an absolute punch of fruits but gently so, with elegance and control that is very St Julien. Grilled cedar finish, great stuff."

Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2019 €160 per 6 bottle case

Pauillac

"Clear muscles on display, speaking to Pauillac. Real depth of flavour also, with a sense of energy and forward motion through the palate, filling out with cassis fruits alongside liquorice root and a clear saline lick on the end of play. Ageing takes place in a mix of barrel and amphoras as with Ferrière, including new amphoras that are made in Limoges and have a porcelain-lined interior. First year officially certified Ecocert."

Château de Fieuzal 2019 €152 per 6 bottle case

Pessac-Léognan

"Deep medium to full intensity purple colour; this is ripe and rich, and the fruit is similarly well expressed. Plumped up on the attack, with firm tannins that make their mark. Really impressive Fieuzal that starts off with confidence and never strays over the line. Chocolate shavings and liquorice notes set against slate and savoury cassis, showcases the Pessac tightrope between intensity and elegance."

Château Gloria 2019 €170 per 6 bottle case

Saint-Julien

"Another winning velvety texture out of St Julien. You can trace the warmth and generosity of the vintage in the concentration and the ripeness of these blackberry and raspberry fruits but it is so seductive and carefully balanced with a core of freshness and a ton of crushed stone, black chocolate and baked earth adding layers and interest. This should be good value and is a definite buy. So much character and personality, right up there with the best vintages of this property. 40% new oak, 5% Petit Verdot completes the blend."

Château Kirwan, 3ème Cru Classé 2019 €186 per 6 bottle case

Margaux

"Careful extraction of the sappy, and enjoyably structured, blackcurrant and blackberry fruits. This is a quality Kirwan that, as with last year, is a fairly serious take on the vintage within the appellation. An earthy, smoked cedar note comes out as the structure relaxes, and there is a lot to enjoy in this wine, which is certain to power through the decades. Blend completed with 6% Petit Verdot and for the first time 1% Carmanère."

Château Lynch-Bages, 5ème Cru Classé, 2019 €465 per 6 bottle case

Pauillac

"This takes hold from the first moment and powers along, delivering a ton of black brambly fruit, liquorice, grilled cedar and Pauillac confidence. The tannins are pretty chewy, really closing in on the end of play, giving no doubt that this is going to age slowly and for many decades, but there is a creaminess to the overall structure that is already evident."

Château Léoville Barton, 2ème Cru Classé, 2019 €365 per 6 bottle case

Saint-Julien

"Medium to full intensity in colour, this is glass-staining ruby and yet another hit from an estate that is making seriously great wine right now. Mint and eucalyptus are clear, tension and grip held through the palate. This has shoulders and swagger to the tannins, pure cassis hit of fruit and some lovely black chocolate and slate overtones along the way. Strays almost to Pauillac in terms of the weight of the tannins, but it's brilliant."

Château Phélan Ségur 2019 €186 per 6 bottle case

Saint-Estèphe

"The complexity and depth is fantastic in this beautifully crafted, refined red. Such poise, finesse and length. Yet dense and very compacted. Love the texture precision. Goes on and on. Best ever?"

James Suckling, 96-97/100 Points

Echo de Lynch-Bages 2019 €160 per 6 bottle case

Pauillac

The second wine from Château Lynch-Bages, Echo de Lynch-Bages 2019 displays a deep, brilliant robe. On the nose, the fruit is expressive with glimpses of a lovely freshness. With characteristic finesse and generous palate, its tannic structure is delicately enhanced by intense notes of fresh red fruits such as redcurrants or raspberries.

Château Lynch-Moussas 2019 €158 per 6 bottle case

Pauillac

"This vintage marks the 100th anniversary of Lynch Moussas under the Castéja family, who arrived at the property in 1919. They have worked hard to establish a more consistent performance over recent vintages, and certainly here you have plenty of impact, with silky tannins, deeply glossed blackberry and cassis fruits, touches of grilled cedar and strong coffee bean on the finish. Low temperature fermentation saw things kept at under 26°c at all times, helping to control the tannin extract from the fruit after the hot summer. An impressive performance from this estate."
