The Restaurant | Virgin Media One | Episode 2 featuring Celebrity Chef, Hugh Wallace

By Lorcan O'Brien | Wine & Communications Manager

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Virgin Media One’s ‘The Restaurant’ as official wine partner for the new season. Our Wine Director, Master of Wine Lynne Coyle worked closely with the restaurant team to pair each exciting dish on the celebrity’s menus with a unique and delicious wine from the O’Briens portfolio of over 800 exclusive wines. Check out last week's blog when Una Healy of The Saturday's was feeling the heat in the kitchen.

During service, the celebrities get instant feedback in the kitchen to their menu from remote cameras and microphones covering the dining room. So the pressure was on for Lynne to choose wines that would not only match the food but also delight the diners by enhancing their overall experience!

To win the wines from tomorrow's episode – follow us on Instagram @OBriensWine and comment under our picture about episode two! (Ts&Cs apply).

Check in with us every week for a first look at all the dishes and wines before the show airs and follow us on twitter & Instagram with your thoughts and comments on the show and wine pairings. All the wines on the show can be found in your local O’Briens and online and all have special prices for the next few weeks!

Gérard Bertrand Hedonisme Rosé | Languedoc, France

A delicious red berry and floral scented, dry-Rosé. Bursting with red fruits on the palate & quite full-bodied for a Rosé but all very well-balanced.

Cortese ‘Nostru’ Catarratto Lucido Terre Siciliane | Sicily, Italy

This organic wine is made with the Catarratto Lucido grape, one of Sicily’s indigenous varieties. Straw-coloured with flecks of green it has a characterful bouquet of jasmine, aromatic herbs and nutmeg. On the palate there is a strong mineral back bone, perfectly balanced with lively acidity, white peach and almond flavours.

Casa de Uco Salvaje Organic Malbec | Mendoza, Argentina

Tucked against the foothills of the Andes Mountains, this Malbec is from fully organic vineyards located at 1,300 metres above sea level. This elevation maintains a refreshing acidity in the grapes, giving a surprisingly fresh, supple wine but retaining all the big punchy fruit flavours expected from a Mendoza Malbec. Unoaked, this is pure expression of the Uco Valley.

Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Viognier | California, U.S.A.

Outstanding Viognier from Freemark Abbey with a silky texture and depth of stone fruit and floral notes: layered and opulent but all the while retaining a vibrancy and freshness. One of the few Viogniers made outside of the Northern Rhône that can hold a flame to Condrieu.
