The Restaurant | Virgin Media One | Episode 4 featuring Celebrity Chef, James Kavanagh

By Lorcan O'Brien | Wine & Communications Manager

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Virgin Media One’s ‘The Restaurant’ as 'Official Wine Partner' for the new season, with episode 4 airing Thursday 3rd October 9pm. Our Wine Director, Master of Wine Lynne Coyle worked closely with the restaurant team to pair each exciting dish on the celebrity’s menus with a unique and delicious wine from the O’Briens portfolio of over 800 exclusive wines.

Check out last week's blog in which Lynne chose the wines to match Maura Derrane's menu.

During service, the celebrities get instant feedback in the kitchen to their menu from remote cameras and microphones covering the dining room. So the pressure was on for Lynne to choose wines that would not only match the food but also delight the diners by enhancing their overall experience!

To win the wines from tomorrow's episode – follow us on Instagram @OBriensWine and comment under our picture about episode 4 of The Restaurant! (Ts&Cs apply).

Check back each week for a first look at all the dishes and wines before the show airs and follow us on Twitter & Instagram with your thoughts and comments on the show and wine pairings. All the wines on the show can be found in your local O’Briens and online and all have special prices for the next few weeks!

Ophalum Albariño | Rías Baixas, Spain

This zesty Albariño is made exclusively for O’Briens by the Paco y Lola winery in the Salnés Valley. It has the typical pear and citrus fruit profile of Galician Albariño with a saline mineral note on the long tropical fruit finish. The crisp acidity is an ideal pairing to cut through the oily fish.

Urlar Sauvignon Blanc | Marlborough, New Zealand

This outstanding single vineyard organic Sauvignon Blanc is wonderfully concentrated with a great depth of intense tropical and citrus fruit flavours, a hint of wild herbs and mineral complexity. A small portion of the wine is aged in oak barrel to give a nice textured palate.

Wildflower Pinot Noir | Romania

Silk-smooth and bursting with ripe cherry & raspberry fruit flavours, this Romanian Pinot over-delivers in every way and when lightly chilled it makes a great partner for shellfish.

Musella Valpolicella Superiore | Italy

Musella are one of the top producers in the Veneto. Fully organic and biodynamic, their Valpolicella is bright with cherry and tea leaf flavours. The palate is silky smooth yet finely structured with firm tannins and bright acidity before a long savoury finish.
