Guerrieri Rizzardi 3 Cru Amarone
The historic Guerrieri Rizzardi house is the the result of the marriage of two two noble Italian families, the Counts Guerreri and the Counts Rizzardi, with a winemaking pedigree that dates back to the 17th century. Today Giuseppe Rizzardi continues his family's rich heritage by producing Venetian wines of real character and finesse. The 3 Cru Amarone take its name from the three premium vineyard sites where the the grapes are sourced. Following harvest the grapes are carefully dried in an air-conditioned room (fruttaio) for over three months. As the grapes lose up to 45% of their water weight the flavours and sugars left behind are concentrated. These raisined grapes are then fermented slowly before 36 months ageing in large and small oak barrels. The resulting wine is a magnificent full-bodied Amarone with rich dark berry and sweet spice aromas. The palate is generous and well-structured with plum jam, mocha and liquorice flavours. The finish has a frefreshing acidity and a lingering savoury note. An excellent introduction to Amarone by a top producer.
