Legendary Spanish Winemaker

Legendary Spanish Winemaker

Since 1870 the Eguren family has been making wines in Rioja and Marcus Eguren is the fifth generation to oversee winemaking at the bodega. The estate mainly grows the Tempranillo grape with vine age ranging from 35 to 70 years allowing for complex, full and concentrated wines to be made.

The Eguren family have passed down from father to son both knowledge and tradition yet, at the same time, have adapted to new advances in technology, always maintaining their respect for the soil and the vine.

The unmistakable and very personal stamp that the family imprints upon the wines, brings together a dailyquest for improvement and a passion for a job well done, from the demanding search for the best conditions for grapevine cultivation to the presentation of the final product to the wine lover.

Marcus diligently ensures that these same high standards are adhered to across his entire range of wines. The Eguren family and their wineries enjoy prestige both in Spain and internationally and have won a number of distinctions and prizes. I have picked out below just a few of my personal favourites.

Protocolo Tinto this fruity, silky smooth wine from central Spain is one of our most popular reds. The main reason is that the quality for price is extremely high; it is a very polished wine for this kind of money.

Sierra Cantabria Rioja Crianza is a Crianza to put others to shame, a serious wine with inky dark fruit and fine oak, structured and multi-layered, it makes the perfect partner for a roast leg of lamb.
