Take One Grape - Pinot Noir

Take One Grape - Pinot Noir

By Lynne Coyle MW | O'Briens Wine Director

Pinot Noir exudes flavours of strawberries, raspberries and black cherry mingled together and is defined by crisp acidity, Mike Raymond the character in the 2004 Academy award-winning Sideways movie was famous for his outspoken views on Merlot, he also however summed up Pinot Noir beautifully:

"It's a hard grape to grow, it's thin-skinned, temperamental, ripens early - it's not a survivor like Cabernet which can just grow anywhere and thrive even when it's neglected - Pinot needs constant care and attention and in fact it can only grow in these really specific, little, tucked away corners of the world -only the most patient and nurturing of growers can do it - Only somebody who really takes the time to understand Pinot's potential canthen coax it into its fullest expression. Thenits flavors, they're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and...ancient on the planet"
