Boisset Family Estates is a family-owned collection of more than 28 historic and prestigious wineries located in some of the world’s most renowned terroirs. Originating in Burgundy, the group now includes Bonpas in the Rhône and Buena Vista in Napa Valley. Each estate has its own unique history and style, producing fine, terroir-driven wines that reflect their region’s character.
Now part of the Boisset Family Estates, Bonpas traces its origins back centuries, taking its name from “Bon Passage,” a fortified monastery that once guarded a key crossing on the Durance River. The name derives from the Latin bonus passus, meaning “safe crossing point.” Today, Bonpas is dedicated to producing authentic Rhône wines, with a particular focus on Grenache-led blends.
The estate makes generous yet refined Côtes du Rhône, structured and age-worthy Gigondas, and powerful, layered Châteauneuf-du-Pape, each shaped by sun-drenched vineyards and stony terroirs. Their motto, “The wine is steady while the world is turning,” has never been more apt.
Boisset Family Estates also own Buena Vista in Napa Valley. It was founded in 1857 by the flamboyant, self-proclaimed “Count of Buena Vista,” Agoston Haraszthy, so the winery has deep roots in California’s wine history. Haraszthy was a vivacious and eccentric pioneer, driven by a passionate and unwavering commitment to the future of California wine. Before there was a California wine industry, there was Buena Vista, the state’s first premium winery.
