Buena Vista Winery has a rich, delicious heritage as the first premium-and certainly the most colourful of all the wineries in California. It is now part of the Boisset Family Estates who also own Bonpas in the Rhône.
California is the leading wine-producing region in the United States, accounting for approximately 90% of all American wine. If it were a country, California would rank as the fourth-largest wine producer in the world, behind France, Italy, and Spain.
Buena Vista was founded in 1857 by the flamboyant, self-proclaimed “Count of Buena Vista,” Agoston Haraszthy, so the winery has deep roots in California’s wine history. Haraszthy was a vivacious and eccentric pioneer, driven by a passionate and unwavering commitment to the future of California wine. Before there was a California wine industry, there was Buena Vista, the state’s first premium winery.
Today, Buena Vista has been revitalized under the visionary leadership of world-renowned vintner Jean-Charles Boisset, continuing its legacy with renewed energy and innovation.
