The Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Lirac Appellations face each other across the Rhône river and share a similar Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and cool wet winters. They also share the same “galets roulés”, large river stones that heat up during the day and radiate warmth back into the vines by night, aiding ripening of the grapes. The influence of the Mistral wind can be significant, helping to reduce moisture and pest pressure. The estate is committed to sustainability and is certified High Environmental Value, Level 3. The principle grapes grown are Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre for the red wines and Grenache Blanc,Clairette and Roussanne for the white wines.
To ensure Winemaker Pierre Fabre has only the healthiest grapes, harvesting is done by hand and yields are kept low to ensure beautifully concentrated fruit. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel, using indigenous yeasts to best express the terroir, before the wine is aged in French oak.
