Le Grand Palme was created by Ray O'Connor, one of a small number of Irish Masters of Wine. He was inspired by his work as Ambassador for Vins de Provence, a role that allowed him to get to know the region and its people. The resulting wine is his effort to express the world of Provence in wine form.
Ray O'Connor's route into winemaking did not start in the vineyard. He spent over ten years sourcing wines for online retail and worked as a sommelier for Gordon Ramsay. He also earned the demanding Master of Wine qualification, held by only a few hundred people worldwide.
As Ambassador for Vins de Provence, Ray gained more than just a technical understanding of the region's rosé style. He came to know Provence as a place defined by its light and its landscape, but also by the people behind the wine: the resilience and the accumulated know-how passed down through the region's growers and producers.
Le Grand Palme is his attempt to put what he has learned into a single bottle. It's a pale, dry rosé from Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, made with the freshness and balance to work equally well as an aperitif or alongside food.
