Maison Kuentz-Bas
Maison Kuentz-Bas
Husseren-les-Châteaux, France

Kuentz-Bas was founded in the Alsatian town of Husseren-les-Châteaux in 1795. In 2004 the 10ha estate was bought by Jean-Baptiste Adam, the fourteenth generation of his family involved in winemaking.

Alsace experiences a continental climate with cold winters and hot summers. Rain is limited by the rain shadow cast by the Vosges mountains and the mild, sunny autumn weather helps to fully and evenly ripen grapes. The main varieties grown are Riesling , Pinot Gris , Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc. The estate converted their 10 hectares of vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming methods in 2004.

Winemaker Olivier Raffin produces a range of minimum-intervention wines in large, old oak vats and stainless-steel tanks, that express the purest fruit character and mineral character of the terroir.
