David Swift Phinney set up Orin Swift Cellars in 1998 in St Helena, California's Napa Valley, staring with two tons of Zinfandel and expanding to making wines across California.
The climate in Napa Valley varies greatly depending on the vineyard location. Sea breezes, altitude, soil type, vineyard exposition and fog play their role allowing for over one hundred different grape varieties to be grown successfully in the valley.
It was this diversity that excited David Swift and today nothing has changed as David and his team continue to follow his original philosophy “find the best fruit from the best vineyards, farm it right, harvest it right, bring it into the winery and don’t screw it up then remain humble and over deliver on quality".
