Silver Oak was founded in 1972 by two friends, Raymond Twomey-Duncan and Justin Meyer. The estate is still in the Duncan family’s hands and now farms over 160 hectares of vineyards in California.
MEET THE WINEMAKERS
Silver Oak produces wine from the neighbouring Napa and Alexander Valleys in California. These two valleys have distinct soil and climate conditions but can be characterised by hot summers. The temperature of the vineyards is moderated by large diurnal swings, particularly at the higher altitude sites on the valleys’ slopes.
The estate specialises in Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec also grown. Silver Oak have an ambitious sustainability programme in their vineyards and wineries.
Head Winemaker, Nate Weis, produces one Cabernet-dominated wine from each estate, aged exclusively in American oak barrels crafted at the winery’s own cooperage in Missouri.
