Tayu 1865
Malleco Valley, Chile

Tayu 1865 is a pioneering project from Viña San Pedro in Chile, created in partnership with the indigenous Buchahueico Mapuche community, to craft expressive Pinot Noir.

The idea for Tayu, which means “ours” in Mapudungun, was born from viticulturist Pedro Izquierdo and Viña San Pedro, aiming to create a long-term sustainable viticultural project with the Buchahueico Mapuche community while producing world-class Pinot Noir. The Mapuche people have always been deeply connected to their land, but vines and vineyard work were new to them. However, the greatest challenge was not the vineyard work but building trust with a community long mistreated and dispossessed. That trust has now grown. The project focuses on Pinot Noir grown in the cool Malleco Valley of Chile’s Patagonia, where the fresh conditions bring delicacy and character to the fruit.
