Great Value Bordeaux
Description
The Barton name goes back to 1722, when Thomas Barton left Ireland for Bordeaux and established one of the region’s great Irish wine dynasties, the same family behind Léoville and Langoa Barton in Saint-Julien. The Barton Sartorius family bought this Moulis-en-Médoc estate in 2011, with Mélanie Barton Sartorius joining as technical manager in 2013. The family invested heavily to modernise the vineyards and winery in the intervening decade, and now consistently make one of the best value Bordeaux for early enjoyment. The 2021 is a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend with an approachable, food-friendly style and enough structure to develop further in bottle. It is an accessible introduction to the Médoc and the wines of the Barton family. Pour it with roast duck or a good beef stew.
Tasting Note
Lovely fruity nose of blackberry, black fruit, with smoky and liquorice notes. The palate is fresh and velvety, revealing notes of blackcurrant and tart raspberry, with delicate tannins.
