Marlborough, New zealand, 2020

13.5%

Description

Established in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first estates to venture into Marlborough. At the time, Marlborough was almost an unimaginable place to set-up a vineyard, but since then Cloudy Bay has risen to become a cult New Zealand winery. Cloudy Bay Chardonnay displays savoury notes of sesame, fragrant ripe oranges and yellow plums that highlight the combination of wild yeast fermentation and, vibrant Marlborough fruit, the palate is textural and generous with zesty citrus, subtle toasty oak, and, a long mineral finish.

Sunday Business Post

Nikolai St George, the senior winemaker at Cloudy Bay, has described the 2019 as a dry vintage and an excellent year for Chardonnay... a stunning representation of what Marlborough can produce. This is expressively fragrant with aromas of summer peach, honeydew melon and apricots. On the palate there are apple and juicy ripe pear notes to the fore, along with a velvety concentrated texture that is balanced by a fresh citrus and steely acidity. Try this with a roast loin of pork, grilled halibut or (as St George recommends) wild mushroom ravioli with burnt butter and parmesan.
