Description
The Jackson and Seillan families acquired Lassègue together in 2003, bringing Pierre Seillan’s winemaking experience on both sides of the Atlantic to this historic Saint-Émilion estate. Its vineyards lie on the limestone slopes around the village and are planted predominantly to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 2021 reflects a precise, vineyard-focused approach, balancing generous fruit with the structure and freshness to develop further in bottle. It’s a polished expression of modern Saint-Émilion with an great transatlantic story of two great wine families behind it. Pour it with duck breast or a mushroom risotto.
Amazing aromatics - very fruit forward on the nose full of blackcurrant, black cherry and black pepper. The strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit absolutely sings in the glass, punchy with excellent clarity and soft plushness. Silky tannins, barely there except to give a mineral, wet stone texture which is to the fore. It’s profound in terms of depth of flavour - vertical and structured, but not heavy or exuberant with freshness and focus keeping it lifted and graceful. Well balanced, harmonious and full of classicism in the best sense. This is the 19th vintage for winemaker Pierre Seillan, whose son will now take the helm. No chaptalisation needed here. 3.64pH. Ageing in 70% new oak.” -93/100 Points, Decanter Wine Magazine
Tasting Note
Beautiful, bright, deep colour. The nose expresses complex and fresh aromatics of red fruits that evolve into notes of violets. The palate is dense and fruity with notes of spices and red fruit, with tannins present but already well integrated.
