Lough Gill Emerald Barrel Aged Stout 33cl Can

Ireland

Powerful Barrel Aged Stout
14.4%

Description

Lough Gill Brewery is based in Sligo, brewing independently since 2016. Emerald is their Imperial Irish Export Stout, brewed and then aged for two years in Irish whiskey barrels from Boann Distillery in Drogheda. This is a special release for St Patrick’s Day 2026.

Two years of barrel contact transforms the base stout into something considerably more layered. The Boann barrels contribute pronounced sherry-like richness on the nose, which carries through to the palate with the warmth of the alcohol never far behind. At 14.4% ABV it is a serious beer, but deceptively smooth for its strength, with a dry finish that keeps it from feeling heavy or cloying.

Best served slightly above fridge temperature, around 10 to 12°C, in a tulip glass. This is a beer to sip slowly rather than rush.

Tasting Note

A beautifully crafted barrel-aged stout that balances the base beer's robust chocolate and coffee character with the complexity from barrel ageing.
