Lynch-Moussas 5ème Cru 2021

Description

The Lynch family left Galway for Bordeaux in the 18th century and became part of the history of Pauillac. The Castéja family acquired Château Lynch-Moussas in 1919 and subsequently undertook an extensive revival of its vineyards and winemaking. The 2021 is 74% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot, giving the wine the Cabernet-led structure that defines classic Pauillac. This is a traditional, age-worthy style from one of the appellation’s 1855 fifth growths, with the structure to develop over several years in bottle. Give it some time and open it alongside a proper rib of beef.

A dark, knitted nose. Red and black cherries, smooth and well textured with fine tannins that just give support. I like the blue fruit touch on the palate, this has a cool feel aided by bitter dark chocolate elements adding the nuance, but all presented with gusto. This is serious and powerful for sure with persistence and long length. It's like a greyhound straight out the gates, fast and decisive. Good balance and well-built with power and concentration. A great effort and a real success for getting the most out the vintage. Tasted twice. Ageing 60% new oak.

Tasting Note

Purple colour with garnet hues, the nose intensely expresses the fruity potential of the vintage, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry as well as spicy nuances. It is a very elegant and harmonious wine, without any hardness.
