Description

Nikka From the Barrel is one of Japan's most distinctive blended whiskies, bottled at cask strength without dilution to preserve the natural intensity that only blenders usually get to experience. Over a hundred malt and grain whiskies, including malts from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries and signature Coffey grain whiskies, are blended and then returned to cask for a further period of maturation. This "marriage" technique allows the component whiskies to harmonise fully before bottling, producing a whisky that is simultaneously rich and mellow, potent on the nose and smooth on the palate.

The iconic square bottle, unchanged in over forty years, is no accident: it was conceived as a visual representation of compressed, concentrated character. From the Barrel delivers exactly that. Best enjoyed neat or with a single large ice cube to allow the whisky to open gradually.

Tasting Note

The nose has medium-body with good balance. There are notes of cut flowers and fresh fruits, spice, and a little oak. The palate is full-bodied and punchy. There is plenty of winter spice and toffee, a little caramel and vanilla, and a good mouthful of fruit. The finish is long, warming and fruity with a little oaken spice.
