Description

Thomond Gate are putting Limerick back on the map of Irish Whiskey after an absence of over a century. Their Château Kirwan Single Pot Still is finished in red wine casks from Château Kirwan, a historic Third Growth estate in Margaux.

Tasting Note

Nose: Pronounced intensity. Very fruity and wine-forward, displaying ripe peach, nectarine, green melon, golden apple, and kiwi. Guava and light tropical fruit emerge with aeration. Soft floral notes, icing sugar, and gentle malt sweetness are supported by restrained oak spice. Palate: Distinctly fruity with flavours of stone fruit, citrus peel, grapefruit, and sweet apple. The sweetness is well-balanced by malty cereal and mild peppery spice from the oak. The texture is smooth and lightly oily, with alcohol well-integrated at this reduced strength, offering a rounded and accessible profile. Finish: Medium length. Notes of honey, pear, and hay persist, with subtle oak, cereal, and light mineral tones. A gentle sweetness carries through to the end. Quality Assessment: Very good quality. Well-balanced with excellent fruit definition, integrated oak, and good texture. Expressive of the Single Pot Still style.
