Rioja, Spain, 2019

Historic Rioja Bodega / Silky soft red fruit profile
tempranillo
13.5%
savoury

Description

Coming from the historic Bodegas Riojanas, this wine is 100% Tempranillo grown in premium Cenicero vineyards in La Rioja Alta. The wine is aged for 18 months in American oak casks before resting in bottle for at least 6 months before release. Full of colour and intensity, it features cherry and blackberry fruit on the nose, underpinned by notes of cocoa and cedar, along with a silky-smooth palate and soft tannins.
Bodegas Riojanas is one of our long-time partners and its winemaker Emilio Sojo Nalda was named Best Winemaker of Rioja in The Drinks Business magazine’s The Master Winemaker 100 (2023). A member of the Frías-Artacho family, who founded Bodegas Riojanas, Sojo is known for giving his wines a modern twist without losing the classic authenticity of the Rioja’s vineyards. Sojo and Bodegas Riojanas are no stranger to awards, however, and the winery was hailed as Winery of the Year 2021 by the Vivirel Vino Guide 2022.

Tasting Note

The primary bramble fruit flavours are complemented by the sweet spice flavours of the oak traditional oak ageing.

Restrained floral and sweet spice aromatics. Palate has a delicate red fruit character and light seasoning of oak spice. Great with food.
