Valpolicella, Italy, 2015

Classic Amarone
barbera, corvina, corvinone, rondinella
16.5%
savoury

Description

Rich and complex, this is a classic Amarone and definitely one to try if you’re a fan of a bold red. It’s packed with dark black fruit teamed with a lovely savoury quality. The grapes for this wine come from the Rizzardi family estate and are semi-dried to concentrate their richness and flavours. After fermentation the wine is aged 3 years in oak barrels. This vintage sees the ideal balance between bright acidity and richness of fruit.

Tasting Note

Classic Amarone; this is rich & complex with lots of dark black fruit and boasts a savoury quality while retaining Rizzardi's signature elegance.

Rizzardi's Bardolino is well worth a try and featured here recently but if you want a big rich wine to cope with goose, sprouts or spiced beef then you should try this Amarone (down from €45). This has big ripe aromas of dark cherries and spice and is full, rich and luscious on the palate with a touch of dark chocolate and surprising elegance for such a big wine.
