Winery: Insight Vineyards
Insight vineyard owner, Fleur McCree grew up in Marlborough, and fell in love with the wine industry whilst at university, deciding there could be few more rewarding careers.
Fleur loved the social element of the wine industry, the food matching experience, and above all the thought of growing and producing something.
Together with her partner Hemi, Fleur resolved to buy a property in New Zealand after backpacking around the world's wine regions during her twenties, so they could put into practice all they had learned from our travels.
Determined that the chosen site would have unique attributes and be well suited to their personalities, but also committed to developing a wine from scratch the pair found an old unloved sheep farm. The prospective site was surrounded by a natural amphitheatre and was graced with diverse soil structure and wide diurnal temperatures - ideal conditions for grape growing.
Within a few years of planting and once the vines had matured, it was obvious that they had hit upon something pretty special so they called upon the experience of Eveline Fraser as their winemaker.
Prior to this, Eveline had been Chief Winemaker at Cloudy Bay and once Eveline saw the high-quality potential of the site, Insight had no problem enlisting her services.
