We have been awash with some exceptional Irish beers over the last few months, but I thought it time to look at some of the great imports that have landed over the last few weeks. There is a bit of an eclectic mix of styles, a little bit of something for everyone.
Fist up, the highly rated Wyoming brewers Melvin. Melvin are a small brewery with a big reputation and numerous national awards. They are most known for hoppy beers, including their duo of flagship IPAs, Melvin IPA and 2x4 Double IPA. Very limited amount has landed in the country but they’re definitely worth seeking out
Staying in USA, Sierra Nevada’s Southern Gothic, is more widely available. It’s an unfiltered Pils lager and while it’s hop-forward, it’s still crisp and light in body. As the Americans would say its very crushable, even if it does tip over the session beer threshold at 5.2% abv.
Hopping continents, we have Scottish brewers, Fierce Beer. They have only been brewing since 2016 but quickly grown a reputation for developing tasty and interesting beers like fruit sours and stouts. Their Café Racer, a coffee vanilla porter, is a particular favourite of mine
Now for something completely different, this has been on our radar for a while and we are delighted to have Hollows and Fentimans Ginger Beer on our shelves. If you are a ginger beer fan, this is definitely one to check out.
